THE PHYSICAL SETTING: REGENTS CHEMISTRY

The Physical Setting: Regents Chemistry course is based on the new Standards mandated by the New York State Education Department. The syllabus for the year will follow the Core Curriculum Guide for the Physical Setting: Chemistry that was put out by the Education Department. The course has a heavy emphasis on matter and energy and the basics of atomic structure. Some of the topics covered are as follows:

  1. Introduction to Chemistry and Measurement
  2. Atomic Structure
  3. Nuclear Chemistry
  4. Chemical Bonding
  5. The Periodic Table
  6. Stoichiometry (Math of Chemistry)
  7. Matter and Energy
  8. Kinetics
  9. Acids & Bases
  10. Electrochemistry
  11. Organic Chemistry

In addition to the curriculum above, students are responsible for completing 30 lab hours. If these labs are not completed, the student will not be able to sit for the Regents Exam.
