I've been teaching in the Washingtonville School District for the
the past nine years. Currently, I teach Regents Earth Science and Field
Environmental Science. My background is in geology as I've earned both
my Bachelors (Bucknell University) and Masters degrees (SUNY New
Paltz) in this field.
For the past two years, I've had the opportunity to teach an
environmental field studies program to juniors and seniors at
Washingtonville High School. The approach has been to introduce
stewardship issues into the mix and the students seem to enjoy it! With
the aide of Orange County Soil Survey's Air Photo program, we've
evaluated the economic and agricultural development our community over a
30 year period (early 1960's to early 1990's). The students have
calculated, with acreage grids, significant increases in land
development.

My Master's thesis focused on the Siluro/Devonian boundary stratigraphy
and paleoenvironments of the Kingston Region of Ulster County. The
fauna was characterized by halysitid and rugose corals, as well as
stromatoporoid sponges. Currently my students and I have been analyzing
the natural history of the Shawangunk Mountains (in particular the
Peter's Kill area) and biodiversity studies near the town of
Washingtonville, New York.
